This pair of turtle brooches are based on a piece from Bergen, Norway (B.1579) an example dating from the Early Viking Period, late 8th to late 9th century. Turtle brooches were worn as jewelry on Viking women's apron dresses.
Cast in bronze, these brooches are also available with a silver-plated or blackened silver-plated finish. These brooches have steel pins for strength.
